Match preview: Huddersfield Town vs Sheffield Wednesday

In the first leg of the Championship play-offs, Wednesday travel to Yorkshire rivals, Huddersfield Town, on Sunday 14th May.

The Owls finished fourth in the Championship, one place above the Terriers. Both sides finished on eighty-one points but Wednesday pipped their rivals to fourth on goal difference – Wednesday finishing on 15 and Huddersfield -2.

Both sides suffered defeat on the last day of the normal season. Fulham, who occupy the final play-off spot, won 2-1 at Hillsborough, with Neeskens Kebano scoring a brace after Sam Winnall gave the hosts the lead. Huddersfield, however, were hammered at the John Smith’s Stadium 3-0 by Cardiff City.

The Owls head into the game with a substantial psychological edge as they have beaten Huddersfield Town on both occasions the Yorkshire teams have met this season. Also, Carlos Carvalhal has won every game he has played against Huddersfield since joining Wednesday in the summer of 2015.
