Match preview: Rotherham United vs Sheffield Wednesday

Wednesday’s second South Yorkshire derby in four days see them travel to already relegated Rotherham United.

After picking up a point at Oakwell on Saturday, Wednesday will be looking to end their four match winless run with a win at the New York Stadium. Rotherham, after having their relegation confirmed on Saturday after a 1-0 home defeat to Fulham, have a shocking thirteen winless runs – and currently have lost their last eight.

The Owls dropped out of the play-off positions due to Fulham’s victory and will be looking to reclaim sixth spot as Fulham travel to Pride Park to face Derby County.

This fixture last season ended 2-1 to Wednesday. Lucas João and Fernando Forestieri scored within five minutes from the second half beginning before Tom Thorpe scored a consolation in the ninety-fifth minute.

Additionally, the reverse fixture ended in an Owls victory as Steven Fletcher tucked away an injury time penalty to give the hosts a 1-0 win.

Carlos Carvalhal has confirmed Sam Hutchinson will miss the clash and Almen Abdi will be out for the season with a knee injury.
