Despite being born in England, Fletcher was eligible for the Scotland national team as his mother was born there and he lived there from the age of ten. He made his Scotland debut in 2008.

Fletcher won his first club honour in 2007 when he won the Scottish League Cup with Hibernian. He has then been a runner-up twice: the Football League Cup with Sunderland in 2013-14 and then the Coupe de France with Marseille last season.

As an individual, he has won the SFWA Young Player of the Year twice (2007-08 and 2008-09). He also won the SPL Young Player of the Month in October 2004, August 2007, February 2008, October 2008 and March 2009. He also won the Premier League Player of the Month in September 2012.

FACT: In 2015, Fletcher became the first player since 1969 to score a hat-trick for Scotland.
